Summer vacation is almost over—how did your child spend this exciting summer? In Dongguan, 65 elementary school students enjoyed a "unique" summer break.

On August 24, Xiao Zhu Ren Bao organized a summer social practice trip, taking 65 young "little reporters" to explore the manufacturing process of mattresses at Donble Mattress in Dongguan—known as "Dongguan's Intelligent Manufacturing Hub." What exactly is the structure inside a mattress? And how do different types of mattresses vary? With these questions in mind, the young reporters ventured into Donble Mattress's production facility.

Stepping into the modern factory hall spanning hundreds of square meters, you’ll find the workspace impeccably tidy and spotless, with materials neatly organized by category. Most striking is a machine designed to test the durability of springs—staff explain that the springs they use undergo rigorous testing, enduring as many as 80,000 cycles like this!

The guide explained the various stages of mattress production to the young reporters, who eagerly grabbed their notebooks to jot down notes.

It turns out that the mattresses we sleep on are made up of springs and filling materials. In the past, mattresses were crafted entirely by hand—every wire had to be twisted individually using manual labor. Today, though, modern machinery is used to produce the springs, ensuring both speed and superior quality. Staff members even say these springs can maintain their reliability for up to 12 years!

Led by the staff, the young reporters also toured the history of mattress evolution. In times when resources were scarce, many people didn’t even have mattresses—they slept directly on wooden planks. Later, purely handmade mattresses emerged, crafted at home using materials like snake-skin bags, sunflower leaves, and cotton-linen blends. Though these homemade creations were affordable, they took an incredibly long time to produce and often varied widely in quality. As society and the economy continued to grow, mattresses themselves underwent numerous transformations—shifting from coir-based models to latex mattresses, and evolving from rough, basic fabrics to cutting-edge, high-tech materials that leave people in awe of today’s rapid technological advancements.

The most exciting part was undoubtedly the interactive quiz with prizes. During the question-and-answer session, young reporters eagerly raised their hands to share their newly acquired knowledge—and walked away with generous rewards provided by Donble Mattress.

The three lucky kids who took the stage to share their thoughts and experiences even won today’s grand prize—student mattresses.

This social practice activity has now come to a basic close. Through this factory visit, the children not only gained knowledge that wasn’t covered in their textbooks but also enjoyed an unforgettable travel experience.
