Don't forget to give your mattress some care too!

Lazing in bed all day is how you enjoy the weekend. Mattress At that time, it gradually became important—generally speaking, a mattress typically lasts 8 to 10 years, but poor habits can significantly shorten its lifespan. So, how should you properly care for your mattress?

1. Remove the plastic wrap
Newly purchased Mattress To ensure the mattress remains uncontaminated during transport, it’s usually wrapped in a protective film. Many consumers mistakenly believe that removing this film will dirty the mattress—but that’s not the case. In fact, keeping the mattress wrapped in the film actually reduces airflow, making it more prone to moisture buildup, mold growth, and even unpleasant odors.

2. Regular Turning
Newly purchased mattresses should be flipped every two to three months during the first year, rotating them across all four edges—both the top and bottom, as well as the left, right, and head-to-foot sides. This ensures even pressure distribution across the mattress’s springs, helping to extend its lifespan. After the first year, you can reduce the frequency slightly, flipping it once every six months instead.

3. Dust Removal and Cleaning
Proper mattress maintenance also requires regular dust removal. Due to the material composition of mattresses, liquid cleaners or chemical-based cleaning products should never be used for dusting—instead, a vacuum cleaner is the recommended tool for this task. Using liquids can damage the mattress, causing metal components inside to rust when exposed to moisture. Not only does this shorten the mattress's lifespan, but it can also pose potential health risks to users.

4. Auxiliary Items
Maintaining your mattress requires attention during its everyday use. In daily life, it’s common to pair mattresses with bed sheets, bedspreads, and other supportive items—this is the most convenient and straightforward way to care for your mattress. Bed sheets not only help extend the lifespan of your mattress by reducing wear and tear but also make it easier to remove, wash, and replace, simplifying the overall cleaning process. When using bed sheets or similar accessories, be sure to wash and change them regularly to keep the surface clean at all times.

5. Drying Process
China experiences a highly variable climate, and the southern regions, in particular, are prone to humidity. Over time, mattresses used extensively require occasional ventilation and drying to ensure they stay dry and fresh, even in damp environments. Additionally, if a mattress will remain unused for an extended period, it’s important to store it in breathable packaging and include individual desiccant packets inside. Then, place the mattress in a dry, well-ventilated area to prevent moisture buildup.

6. Regular Replacement
Many people believe that as long as a mattress isn’t broken, there’s no need to replace it—but typically, the effective lifespan of a spring mattress is around 10 years. After using a mattress for over a decade, the springs gradually lose their elasticity due to prolonged heavy pressure, causing a noticeable decrease in how well the mattress conforms to the body. As a result, the natural alignment of the spine is compromised, leaving the back in an unnaturally curved position instead of receiving optimal support.

So even if there’s no sign of localized damage, it’s still best to replace your mattress promptly. After all, we often put a lot of thought into achieving quality sleep—but don’t forget to take a little time to care for your mattress, helping it last longer and ensuring you sleep even more soundly.
