How to choose a mattress? Remember these four eco-friendly materials.

"What kind of filling material is used in the mattress? That's a question many people naturally ask when shopping for a new one. Terms like 'zero-pressure cotton,' 'thermally stable cotton,' and 'slow-rebound memory foam' may all refer to the same material—memory foam—but they’re labeled differently, leaving consumers confused yet impressed by the jargon. So, how do you choose the right mattress? Just remember these four commonly used, eco-friendly materials—and you’ll be set!"

1. Hard cotton

Hard cotton is a firmer type of filling material commonly used to enhance the support of mattresses. Made using a hot-air process, it’s bonded without any glue, making it highly eco-friendly and safe for health. Many mattress manufacturers in China, such as Donble Mattress—a 30-year-old brand based in Dongguan—have already incorporated hard cotton extensively into their products.

2. 3D materials

3D material is an eco-friendly polyester fabric featuring a double-layer mesh structure with numerous threads connecting the layers, creating a hollow, three-dimensional design that offers excellent breathability. Don’t be fooled by its soft, cushion-like appearance—this material packs quite a punch when it comes to support! Its surface boasts countless independent support points, which help evenly distribute body weight and provide optimal, customized support.

3D materials offer advantages such as being eco-friendly, breathable, and providing excellent support, which is why more and more mattress manufacturers are now incorporating them into their mid-to-high-end products. Dongguan-based Donble Mattress, a brand with 30 years of expertise, features several mattress models that utilize 3D materials—including a fully washable 3D mattress option.

3. Natural Latex

Latex is made from the sap of rubber trees and is a healthy, eco-friendly synthetic material. Natural latex has a soft texture and excellent elasticity, enhancing mattress comfort by allowing the mattress to better conform to the contours of the body, thereby alleviating pressure points.

Donble Mattress incorporates high-performance polymer latex in its next-generation mattresses, crafted using a cutting-edge foaming process that makes the product far more durable than natural latex. Additionally, the latex is infused with Swiss-based Sanitized anti-mite technology, effectively combating bacteria and preventing dust mites—ensuring a healthy, hygienic sleep environment.

4. Sponge

Most spring mattresses on the market use foam. In fact, foam is an artificially synthesized material made from high-density polyurethane, and it’s typically more affordable than natural latex. Foam has a soft texture that helps it conform to the body, effectively reducing pressure points. However, its elasticity isn’t quite as good as that of natural latex.

A mattress isn’t a high-tech product—it’s a product born out of integrity. Whether a mattress is eco-friendly and healthy largely depends on the filling materials it uses. When choosing a mattress, we recommend opting for mattress brands that are honest and trustworthy.
