In recent years, green and eco-friendly features have become a key factor influencing consumers' decisions when choosing mattresses. However, many shoppers purchasing mattresses offline have noticed that the "green certifications" touted by retailers vary widely—each with its own unique claims—making it hard to trust them outright. Moreover, most mattresses on the market are designed as seamless, non-disassemblable units, leaving consumers unable to inspect the materials used inside. So, how can consumers actually find a mattress that’s not only environmentally friendly but also healthy and safe?

The method is simple: just choose a mattress that has earned China’s Green Product Certification. This certification system, promoted by China’s State Administration for Market Regulation in recent years, sets stringent standards for manufacturers across multiple areas—including raw materials, factory environments, pollution control, and finished-product inspection.

When choosing mattresses, people are generally concerned about whether formaldehyde levels exceed the standard. According to the national standard GB 18580-2017, which is mandatory, formaldehyde emissions must be kept below 0.124 mg/m³. However, the even stricter standard GB/T 35607-2017—specifically the "Green Product Evaluation: Furniture" guideline—sets a lower limit of less than 0.05 mg/m³. Clearly, the requirements for green product certification are exceptionally stringent.

In addition, before obtaining China's Green Product Certification, companies must first achieve certification under the three ISO standards: ISO 9001, ISO 45001, and ISO 14001. Furthermore, they must not have experienced any major safety incidents or environmental pollution events in the past three years. Once a company earns the Green Product Certification, it will also be required to undergo regular annual inspections; failure to meet the standards during these checks could result in the revocation of the certification.

Therefore, when choosing a mattress, consumers should not only pay attention to the brand but also check whether it carries the China Green Product Certification mark.
