The Chinese government is promoting China's Green Product Certification program, aiming to establish a unified system encompassing green product standards, certification processes, and labeling schemes. 2. Which product categories are considered green products?

Currently, the State Administration for Market Regulation has released four batches of green product evaluation standard lists and certification catalogs, covering products closely related to consumers—such as textiles, furniture, household appliances, express delivery packaging, kitchen and bathroom hardware, and domestic gas appliances—which now include mattresses.

3. How to obtain green product certification?

GB/T 35607-2017 "Green Product Assessment — Furniture" outlines the green product assessment requirements and methods for furniture products. Manufacturing enterprises seeking to join the furniture green assessment system must first meet the following basic criteria:

1. The pollutant emissions from product manufacturing enterprises must comply with relevant environmental protection laws and regulations, meeting the requirements of national or local pollutant emission standards, and there should have been no major safety accidents or significant environmental pollution incidents in the past three years.

2. Total pollutant control for manufacturing enterprises must meet the national and local total emission control targets.

3. Management in manufacturing enterprises should ensure the establishment and effective operation of an Environmental Management System according to GB/T 24001, a Quality Management System according to GB/T 19001, and an Occupational Health and Safety Management System according to GB/T 28001, respectively.

4. The product quality level must meet the requirements of relevant product standards.

Regarding the limit values for hazardous substances in products, GB/T 35607-2017 "Green Product Evaluation — Furniture" sets even stricter benchmark requirements. For instance, formaldehyde emission levels—a concern of widespread public interest—is mandated by the national standard GB 18580-2017 to be below 0.124 mg/m³. In contrast, GB/T 35607-2017 "Green Product Evaluation — Furniture" imposes a more stringent requirement, specifying that mattress formaldehyde emissions must be lower than 0.05 mg/m³.
