Senior's recommendation: During your four years of college, choose a student mattress that’s built to last.

The September school season is just around the corner, and freshmen are already starting to stock up on essentials. Besides laptops and toiletries, mattresses have also become a top priority for students shopping for their new dorm setups.

What’s most important for students buying a mattress? Of course, it’s the price—affordability above all else. When I first started college as a freshman, I wanted to save money, so I splurged just a few dozen bucks online and picked up a 3cm-thick mattress with only a thin layer of sponge inside. At first, it actually felt pretty good—it wasn’t too soft or too firm, and it was definitely better than sleeping on a wooden board. But hey, the real kicker? It was cheap! And let’s be honest—saving a bit of cash to treat yourself to some delicious milk tea? Now that’s what I call a win-win!

But after sleeping on it for two semesters, I started to regret my decision—my mattress had begun to lose its shape. The spots where my hips and knees usually pressed down showed noticeable sagging of varying degrees. When I unzipped it to check, sure enough, the foam was squeezed out of place, completely unable to bounce back! The areas where the mattress had sunk were now painfully thin, making it feel like I was lying directly on a wooden board.

Online student mattresses range from a few dozen to over a hundred yuan—most of them are made of foam. But let’s face it: foam material, no matter how good, will inevitably sag if you sleep on the same spot for too long. With three whole years left in college, I really don’t want to keep worrying about my mattress sinking under me. Instead, I’d rather invest in a firmer, more durable student mattress that won’t give way as easily.

Finally, my mom bought me a foldable Double Mattress. Made with high-density cotton, it offers a firmer sleeping feel—solid enough to provide comfort without being too hard and uncomfortable against your bones. Plus, the mattress provides excellent support, so you can roll around on it without sinking or losing its shape.

Most importantly, this Double Mattress is truly incredibly durable. I’ve been using it since my sophomore year through graduation, and the mattress still feels firm—there’s not a single sign of sagging. Even now, it continues to rest peacefully at home.
