The mattress is made of straw and cardboard, resulting in poor sleep quality.

Have you ever paid attention to what materials your family’s mattress is made of? Take a moment to check if the mattress has any defects that might affect your sleep quality. It’s also a good idea to read the mattress’s instruction manual—it’ll give you a clearer understanding of its structure and materials.

However, some unscrupulous mattress sellers may resort to using materials like straw and cardboard to make mattresses. Such mattresses are low-quality, fail to meet our sleep needs and habits, and unfortunately don’t promote restful, high-quality sleep—making them definitely not worth purchasing.

Therefore, how can we identify such low-quality mattresses?

As consumers, once you unknowingly encounter a "black-hearted mattress," not only will you suffer financial losses, but the long-term harm to your health will be immeasurable—and impossible to put a price on. One can only wonder: How many people might have been sleeping soundly for decades, oblivious to the fact that someone—or something—has been silently undermining their well-being? And how many others are now living in constant anxiety, questioning whether the mattresses in their homes even meet safety standards? Ultimately, who can truly give consumers the peace of mind to sleep soundly, free from worry?

Scientific reports reveal that people spend roughly one-third of their lives sleeping—meaning, on average, we spend at least 20+ years of our lives "battling it out" with our mattresses. After all, the safety and quality of a mattress directly influence both our sleep and overall health. An substandard mattress can even lead to unimaginable harm to the body, making the ongoing "battle for home safety" an unrelenting struggle from day to day.

Imagine, nestled inside the mattress we touch every day, are mixed in sand, straw, and even rice chaff—plus levels of formaldehyde nearly 40 times higher than allowed. Would you still sleep soundly?

On April 14, CCTV's Weekly Quality Report revealed that Beijing Consumer Association recently conducted a comparative test on mattresses. The study involved 50 mattress samples—37 spring soft mattresses and 13 palm fiber elastic mattresses—and found that 25 of these samples had quality issues, resulting in an unqualified rate as high as 50%. These problems included excessive formaldehyde levels, as well as materials inside the mattresses containing impurities such as sand, gravel, straw, and even rice stalks—serious concerns that directly threaten human health and safety. In particular, mattresses with excessively high formaldehyde content can gradually release free-formaldehyde during daily use, posing risks to the body through skin contact and inhalation. Prolonged exposure may lead to respiratory irritation, eczema, and even increase the risk of cancer or promote cancer development.

After understanding the dangers of low-quality mattresses, we must carefully distinguish between genuine and counterfeit ones—ensuring that substandard mattresses never find their way into our homes. Instead, let’s choose high-quality mattresses to safeguard our sleep and support optimal recovery, helping our bodies rejuvenate effectively.
